Η Πολιτιστική Εταιρεία Επιχειρηματιών Βορείου Ελλάδος, σε συνεργασία με το Ίδρυμα Konrad Adenauer και το Δίκτυο Ναυαρίνο, και υπό την αιγίδα του Δήμου Θεσσαλονίκης, διοργανώνουν το 7ο Διεθνές Συμπόσιο Θεσσαλονίκης/7th Thessaloniki International Symposium in World Affairs, στις 21 Οκτωβρίου 2018 στο κινηματοθέατρο Ολύμπιον. Το Διεθνές Συμπόσιο Θεσσαλονίκης ξεκίνησε το 2012 στο πλαίσιο των εορτασμών της εκατονταετηρίδας από την απελευθέρωση της πόλης και έκτοτε έχει καταστεί ένας σημαντικός θεσμός με μεγάλη απήχηση ιδιαίτερα στο νεανικό κοινό της πόλης. Το Συμπόσιο αποτελεί μια διεθνή συνάντηση κύρους και μια πλατφόρμα διαλόγου για τις κρίσιμες παγκόσμιες εξελίξεις και προκλήσεις της εποχής μας. Η φετινή διοργάνωση έχει θέμα: “The world in 2019: The threat and challenge of rising inequalities” και φιλοδοξεί να προσεγγίσει το πολυδιάστατο ζήτημα των ανισοτήτων στο σύγχρονο κόσμο.


Eastern Europe: Successes and failures on the road to convergence 30-1 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall

Anders Aslund,
Professor, Georgetown University & Senior Fellow, Atlantic Council

Anders Aslund is a resident senior fellow in the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council. He also teaches at Georgetown University. He is a leading specialist on economic policy in Russia, Ukraine, and East Europe. Dr. Aslund has served as an economic adviser to several governments, notably the governments of Russia and Ukraine (1994-97). He is chairman of the Advisory Council of the Center for Social and Economic Research, Warsaw, and of the Scientific Council of the Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition. He has published widely and is the author of fourteen books. Previously, he worked at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Brookings Institution, and the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies at the Woodrow Wilson Center. He was a professor at the Stockholm School of Economics and the founding director of the Stockholm Institute of East European Economics. He served as a Swedish diplomat in Kuwait, Poland, Geneva, and Moscow. He earned his PhD from Oxford University

Documenting inequality: photojournalism from the global periphery

Yannis Behrakis,
Senior Editor, Reuters

Yannis Behrakis was born in Athens in 1960. He studied photography at the Athens School of Arts and Technology and received his BA (Honours) in arts by the Middlesex University. He worked as Chief Photographer at Reuters for 30 years. Since 2017, he is Senior Editor of Special Projects, one of the most prestigious positions in the Agency. He is also ‘Ambassador’ of the Reuters photographic department globally. He often gives lectures to American and European Universities and is a visiting lecturer at the Indiana University. He has received some of the most important international awards: three times named European photojournalist of the year by Fujifilm (1999, 2002 and 2004), the first prize in the General News Stories category by the World Press Photo Foundation (2000), the POYi by the Missouri University (two times), the China International Photo Awards (five times), the Normandy Bayeux Awards for war correspondents (three times), the Botsis Foundation Award (2000), while he was the first winner of the Days in Japan in 2015-16. He was designated ‘photographer of the year’ by the Guardian and Reuters in 2015. At the same year, he was head of the Reuters’ photojournalists team that were awarded the Pulitzer price.

Digital inequality and cyber security

Nimrod Kozlovski,
Senior Advisor on Internet laws, Ad-tech, Monetization and e-Commerce, Herzog Fox & Neeman Law Office

Nimrod Kozlovski is an expert investor in Cyber Security and a teaching professor on Internet and Cyber Law, Information Technology and Innovation with experience as a seasoned entrepreneur and Strategic & Legal Consultant. He received his doctorate in law (J.S.D) from Yale Law School and conducted his Post-Doctorate research in Computer Science on Proactive Security at Yale School of Computer Sciences. He was an Adjunct Professor at New York Law School and has written books and articles on Internet Law, Cyber Crime, Digital Law Enforcement and Copyright Law. He co-initiated the Yale-Harvard-MIT Cyber Scholars program, was a Research Fellow at Yale Information Society Project and was a summer Adjunct Lecturer at Oxford University for Internet studies. He joined Herzog Fox & Neeman in 2013 as a Senior Advisor on Internet laws, Ad-tech, Monetization and e-Commerce while formerly he was the co-founder of various innovative start-ups in the fields of Internet law, telecommunication regulation, information security and proactive security and to governmental and international security bodies.




Tο Ολύμπιον, ένα από τα πιο χαρακτηριστικά κτίρια στο κέντρο της Θεσσαλονίκης, συνδέεται άμεσα με την πολεοδομική, την αρχιτεκτονική και κυρίως την καλλιτεχνική ιστορία της πόλης, αφού στέγασε τις πρώτες διοργανώσεις του Φεστιβάλ Eλληνικού Kινηματογράφου τη δεκαετία του '60 και φιλοξένησε παραστάσεις των καλύτερων ελληνικών θεατρικών σχημάτων, μουσικές εκδηλώσεις και παραστάσεις όπερας.

Aπό την ανάπλασή του το 1997, το κτιριακό συγκρότημα Ολύμπιον αποτελεί τη μόνιμη έδρα (φυσική και ιστορική) του Φεστιβάλ Kινηματογράφου Θεσσαλονίκης. Στο κτίριο στεγάζονται δύο κινηματογραφικές αίθουσες, το cafe-bar και το βιβλιοπωλείο του Φεστιβάλ.
